The budget process begins several months in advance of the budget year—typically as early as August. Department heads and committee chairpersons work together to determine their budget requests for their individual departments. These requests are then incorporated into the full Village budget for review by the entire Village Board. By the beginning of November, the Board has had an opportunity to review the preliminary budget and make cuts and changes as it sees fit. The Board will then approve a budget for posting near the end of November. The final adoption of the budget is done after a public hearing that is usually held in the first week of December.
